FayVault is a private vault for your photos, videos, files, and documents. Your vault stays on your iPhone. This policy explains the small amount of information the app does send, and why.
Vault content is processed and stored by FayVault on your device. FayVault does not upload your vault files to our servers. Content leaves the vault only when you explicitly export, share, or back it up.
Everything you add is encrypted on your iPhone with a key held in the device's Keychain. We have no copy of that key and no way to read your files. We also never receive:
If you forget your PIN or your backup password, we cannot recover them. That is a consequence of not holding your keys, not an oversight.
Nothing below is sent unless you agree to it. When you first set FayVault up we ask whether you are willing to share anonymous diagnostics, and until you answer, the app sends nothing. You can change your mind at any time in Settings › Privacy › Anonymous Diagnostics, and turning it off also deletes what was already collected. Nothing you pay for depends on your answer.
The one exception is app settings, described first, because it is a download rather than something about you.
FayVault uses Google Firebase for two things.
The app reads a configuration document so we can adjust things like limits and support links without shipping an update. This is a download only — nothing about you is sent to read it.
Only if you agreed. So we can tell which devices and iOS versions to support and spot problems, the app records:
This identifier is generated by the app. It is not your Apple Account, your name, your email, your phone number, or an advertising identifier, and it is not linked to any of them. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we sell nothing to anyone.
Only if you agreed. So we can tell which parts of the app people actually use, FayVault sends a short list of things that happened — that the app was opened, that an import, export, search, folder, backup, restore, or purchase took place — to Aptabase. Ten kinds of event, and no others.
These carry no identifier at all: Aptabase stores no installation id, no advertising id, and its session number lives only in memory and changes every hour, so there is nothing to join them back to you or to the device record above. Where an event describes how many files were imported, it is sent as a range such as “2–5” rather than a number, because how much you keep in your vault is a fact about your content.
What is never included: your files, their names, folder names, tag names, how many items you have, their sizes, thumbnails, anything you type into search, your PIN, or your backup password.
If you take a photo or record a video inside FayVault, iOS asks your permission first. What you capture is encrypted into your vault and is not added to your Photo Library, and no photo or recording is sent to us. Adding existing photos uses the standard iOS picker, which hands the app only the items you select — which is why FayVault never asks for access to your Photo Library at all.
FayVault Premium is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase and managed with RevenueCat, which records your purchase and subscription status so the app knows what you have access to. Your payment details go to Apple; we never see them. This is how a purchase works rather than something you opt into, so it is not covered by the diagnostics switch — and equally, refusing diagnostics never affects what you have paid for.
Three services receive any of the above, and no others:
Each is bound to protect that information to the same standard this policy sets out, and none of them is permitted to use it for advertising or to identify you. We do not sell data to anyone, and no other company receives anything.
An encrypted backup is a single file protected by a password you choose. You decide where it is saved through the iOS Files app — that may be your device, iCloud Drive, or somewhere else. It never passes through our servers. We cannot recover the password, and without it the backup cannot be opened.
When you export a file it is decrypted and leaves FayVault's protection. Anyone who can open the place you saved it can open the file. Your copy inside the vault stays encrypted.
The anonymous device record is kept while the app is in use and for up to two years after the last time it was opened, after which it is removed. Anonymous app statistics are kept in aggregate and are not tied to any installation, so there is no individual record of them to find or remove.
To withdraw consent and delete what was collected, turn off Settings › Privacy › Anonymous Diagnostics. The app stops sending immediately and deletes its device and installation records from our database. You can also email us at the address below; there is no account to close either way.
Deleting the FayVault app removes your vault and its encryption keys from your device. One small thing does survive being deleted, because iOS keeps it: the random installation identifier described above, so that reinstalling is not counted as a new device. It says nothing about you or your files, and turning off Anonymous Diagnostics discards it too.
FayVault is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes.
